I started acting in 1991 with my first film “Idhayam” and in these several years have managed to be in 100 odd films and in over 5000 TV episodes. The first time I got on Stage , as I recall was probably in my 4th or 5th Class ( Grade) in my School – Vidya mandir , Mylapore. Then it was in my high school years in madras Christian College School , where there was a School Master called J.Lakshminarayanan ( JLN) , who put me on Stage for the annual school fund raiser.Then there was a long gap till mt friend and class mate T.T.Srinath had me acting in a small sketch during my days in XLRI ( Xavier labour Relations Institute). This was in 1976 , for the Juniors Nite – when we did a small scene from “The Tea House of the August Moon ” – I did that introductory speech – Lovely ladies , Kind gentlemen, Sakini by name, interpretor by profession…..”. Then I started to actively involve myself in all theatre/ Stage activity that took place there. In 1978 , the Institute play was to be ” Hello Dolly” and K.Janardhan ( Jack) of TISCO , himself a talented actor/director its Director. I donned the role of Horace Vandergelder ( Walter Maththau’s role in the film) – we had a lot of fun and bon homie during the rehearsal and the actual staging. The previous year 1977 was when we staged Equus – I had a much smaller , in fact a minor role in it……but this was the first time I went on Stage – not the School kind but a programme which was watched by a paying public. The annual XLRI play was always looked forward to by the Theatre supportive citizens of Jamshedpur.

Having completed my education I returned to Madras , got a job , got married and then carried on with life like most people. There is an organisation called Round table India and I had joined one of the Tables in Madras , The Madras Midtown Round Table No 42.

I was quite active and even became The National Secretary-Treasurer of the organisation. Here I used to be very active in the Play/Skit competitions and also in compering events. This prompted teo of my tabler friends , who were Film Producers to ask me to act in their films – thus came Sathya Jyothi Films’ Idhayam in 1991 and Sivaji Films – Ele my friend……I owe it all to my friends G.Thyagarajan, who was the first to call me to this lovely entertainment world and to G.Ramkumar of Sivaji films , who has , by associating me in many of his events given me a tremendous status in the Film fraternity. That we remain friends and I continue to act in their Productions is by the grace of god.

I was recently given the Tamil Nadu State Award for the best Character actor…..
