CineManage

Cinema is a very powerful medium and has the capacity to influence people. The power of this medium is evident from the influence it has had on the social fabric of this country. Indeed , the world , as we have had Ronald Reagan, a movie star holding the most powerful office in the world. Every movie made is based on interaction between people and if viewed properly can go beyond mere entertainment. Good films can serve to teach truths about human condition, revealing how people think, how they act, and how they dream. What could be more important to a successful Manager- Leader-Team member than the greater understanding of people, their emotions and knowing what makes people tick  ?

Thus telling him how he can get the best out of each individual and with synergy more out of the group.

Management Schools all over have often used films like the classic Henry Fonda starrer “12 Angry men” to explain Objection handling, Conflict resolution, Group behaviour, Creative Thinking etc. Currently several films like Apollo 13,The Hunt for Red October, Glengary Glen-Ross, Remember the Titans,Wall Street, Hoosiers, Miracle, Chariot of the Gods to name a few are also being used.

With almost 3 decades of Corporate and Cinema experience I have been able to integrate these two using scenes from Indian Films just as effectively. Thus the programme through a choice of the films used is equally effective across all levels in the company’s hierarchy.

Through viewing a selection of carefully selected scenes from Hollywood/Bollywood and Kollywood (Tamil) films ,various concepts and situations are experienced by the Participants. They are not mere viewers of these but get to discuss the scene and play games/exercises on the concepts seen.

Film clips ie scenes are used from several Films, to highlight the concept being discussed. Tamil Blockbusters starring Rajinikanth, Kamalhassan, Vijay, Sivaji Ganesan etc are used as a training tool. Advertisement films too serve to highlight a point. A number of clips used are those in which I have myself acted , making the message more personal and therefore credible.

Theatre games and exercises are used by theatre practitioners to integrate the group as well as to help actors shed rigid personality patterns. Cinemanager uses these theatre techniques to facilitate learning in the corporate environment.  The games and exercises used are fun. Nevertheless, they are powerful, experiential tools that provide deep transformational insights into how people think, function, feel and perceive themselves and others.  They also serve to increase sensitivity and facilitate bonding.

After each game or series of games, the facilitator encourages participants to share their experiences and insights.  By processing this feedback, invaluable lessons are learnt.  Such learning is direct and personal.

Unlike conventional training programmes the setting can be informal and mattresses and bolsters may be instead of tables and chairs. Participants are advised to wear loose, comfortable clothing.  By virtue of this setting and the nature of the activity, interest levels, participation levels, and retention levels are high.

The Programmes are purely experiential in nature and is individually designed to suit the special needs of each Organisation. It uses inputs from Theatre, Music and other fine arts as well. This being so, even the most exhaustive write-up cannot convey the impact of the programmes. The programme has been conducted successfully in several multi-national banks, mutual funds, manufacturing organizations, NGO’s and IT companies. The programme is effective both in house and when conducted off site. The technique has been found highly effective in areas like:

  • Team Integration & Bonding
  • Communication & Personal Effectiveness- Stress and Time Management
  • Leadership & Management Skills
  • Facilitating Skills
  • Energising & Motivating Teams
