Travancore Sisters

Today was the day acting was born…yes, today , the 1st Oct was the birthday of Sivaji Ganesan,the great Thespian.
Every year to mark his passing away , the family of Sivaji , through the Sivaji Prabhu Charities trust honours in association with the Postal department by issuing a Special Cover and Cancellation. This cancellation is unique and after a Postage Stamp this is the next highest thing the department does to honour achievers and achievements.

Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

After a long gap I had the blessing to visit the
abode of Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai – Swami to us
his devotees. What a wonderful two days it was.
Indeed , I have been planning on blogging my
limited experiences with Swami and have been
wondering if it should be in this thread or whether I should start something fresh. I wonder and look to you , the readers , to guide me. M.R.Radha

Last Year I was asked by Chennai heritage/Madras Musings to present a Talk with Film Clips during the Chennai Week. The topic last year was Chennai as a backdrop in Films 1930s to 1960s. Stills from that research are seen in my earlier Blog. It was so wonderful an experience for me that I unhesitatingly accepted to deliver one more this year. My Talk this year is on the famed M.R.Radha. The first is in Tamil and the second in English. It is expected that I will shut up in an hour ‘s time…..but even if we double it , we can all be back home or out partying by 8.30 PM. Continue reading M.R.Radha

எந்த ஒரு நடிகருக்கும் இல்லாத பெருமை நமது அய்யாவிற்கு உண்டு . பராசக்தி என்ற அந்த காவியத்தில் முதல் முதலில் திரையில் தோன்றி சரித்திரம் படைத்தார் . முதல் படமே சூப்பர் ஹிட் . முதல் படத்திலேயே கதாநாயகன் . 1950 ல் சுமார் ஜூலை ஆகஸ்டில் ஸ்க்ரீன் டெஸ்ட் எடுத்து படப்பிடிப்பு தொடங்கி 1952 தீபாவளிக்கு தான் படம் வெளி வந்தது . இரண்டு ஆண்டு போராட்டம் , பல இன்னல்கள்,பூசல்களை தாண்டி வந்து தமிழ் திரையின் தலை எழுத்தையே மாற்றி அமைத்தது அந்த படம் . ஏன் ….அரசியல் தலை எழுத்தையே மாற்றி அமைத்தது என்றால் மிகை ஆகாது . அந்த இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளில் அவர் பட்ட சோதனைகளை பற்றி அவரே அவரது சுய சரிதத்தில் எழுதி இருக்கிறார் .
பராசக்தி வெளி வந்த 50 வது ஆண்டு அந்த படத்தின் இணை தயாரிப்பாளர்களான AVM நிறுவனம் ஒரு அற்புதமான சாதனையய் செய்தது. Continue reading சிவாஜி கணேசன் – AVM

நடிகர் திலகம் …..ஒரு அஞ்சலி …

இன்று தான் அவர் நம்மை விட்டு பிரிந்த நாள் . 21st ஜூலை 2001.
ஒரு சம்பவம் ஞாபகத்துக்கு வருது . ஒரு முறை அவரோடு பேசிக்கொண்டு இருந்தேன் ..பல விசயங்களை அலசிவிட்டு நடிப்புக்கு வந்தோம் .அவருக்கு அப்பொழுது உடல் நலம் சற்று குறைவு . இருந்தாலும் நடித்துக்கொண்டு இருந்தார் . நான் அவரிடம் ‘ எப்பொழுது ரிடயர் ஆவிர்கள் என்று கேட்டேன் ….ஏன் ? நான் நடிக்கறது உனக்கு புடிக்கலையா இல்ல உன் TVநடிப்பு க்கு நான் போட்டியா ? என்றார் ….சிருத்துக்கொண்டே ..

Having said a bit about the Superstar, let me talk of another really great person, a man who does not know the meaning of the words “pride” and “selfishness”.The Great singer SPB. Balu Anna and I have had several interactions , thanks to a few films we shot and thanks to , you will be surprised Indian Cricketeers Anil Kumble, Venkatesh Prasad, Rahul Dravid, VVS Lakshman and so on.It was because of these people that I had a chance to re establish and re affirm my friendship with my colleague and fantastic actor Subalekha Sudhakar and his lovely “dharmapatni” S.P.Shailaja – an equally talented person.
